Privacy policy

Who this is about

This policy covers tryoverseer.com, including the marketing pages and the free section library at/sections. It is published by Overseer, which decides what is collected here and why.

There is no account to create and nothing to buy on this site, so most of what follows is short.

What we do not collect

Worth stating first, because it is most of the answer:

• There is no sign-up, no login and no user account.
• There is no contact form. Nothing on this site asks you to type your name, email or phone number into a page we control.
• There are no advertising or retargeting pixels — no Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel, no LinkedIn Insight tag.
• Fonts are self-hosted. Loading a page does not send a request to Google Fonts, so your IP address is not disclosed that way.
• We do not sell or rent visitor data, and we never have.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count pageviews and see which pages people actually read. It sets cookies in your browser and reports the page you viewed, the site or search that referred you, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and basic device and browser details. Google uses the IP address to work out that rough location and does not store it; we never see it at any point.

We use this in aggregate, to decide what to write and what to fix. We do not try to identify individual visitors from it, and we do not combine it with anything else.

Analytics runs only on the published site. Local development and preview builds ship no tracker at all.

To opt out: block cookies for this site in your browser, use a content blocker, or installGoogle's opt-out extension. The site works exactly the same either way.

Booking a call

The calendar on the home page is Calendly, embedded in a frame. When you book, the name, email address and any note you enter go to Calendly and to us, so that we can hold the meeting and email you about it. Loading that frame also lets Calendly set its own cookies, underCalendly's privacy notice, not this one. We ask Calendly not to show its own cookie banner in the frame, which is why those cookies are named here instead.

We use booking details to run the call and follow up on it. We do not add you to a mailing list off the back of a booking.

Email

If you email sumit@tryoverseer.com, we keep the message and your address for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of the work. Email reaches us through our mail provider, which stores it on our behalf.

Server logs

The site is static files served by a hosting provider and its CDN. Like any web host, it records requests — IP address, timestamp, the URL asked for, and the user agent — for delivery, security and abuse handling. We do not use those logs for analytics or profiling.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies. The two sources of cookies here are Google Analytics and, if you open the booking calendar, Calendly. Blocking or clearing them costs you nothing on this site: no feature depends on a cookie.

The section library

Overseer Sections is a catalogue of screenshots taken from publicly accessible Shopify storefronts, with the URL and page template each one came from. It captures shop pages as an ordinary visitor sees them; it is not logged in as anyone, and it does not capture checkout, account or order pages.

Screenshots remain the property of the stores they came from. If you own a store in the library and want a capture removed, emailsumit@tryoverseer.com with the URL and we will take it down.

Client work

When you hire us, we are usually given access to your Shopify store and the data inside it, which can include your customers' personal data. We act on your instructions with that data, we use it only to do the work you asked for, and we give access back or lose it when the engagement ends. It is never merged into anything on this site and never used to train anything.

How long we keep things

Analytics data expires on Google's retention schedule for our property. Booking and email records are kept while we are talking, and afterwards for as long as we need them for our own records and tax obligations. Anything we no longer have a reason to hold gets deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, or to receive a copy. Visitors in the UK and EEA have these rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR; California residents have comparable rights under the CCPA, including the right to know and to delete. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.

To exercise any of these, emailsumit@tryoverseer.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you for enough detail to find your records — usually the email address you used.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you are entitled to complain to your local data protection authority. We would rather you told us first, so we can fix it.

Children

This site sells services to businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted here and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will say what changed rather than quietly replacing the text.
